Ailyn's Medical Bar

Cerebral palsy

Ailyn's CP was caused during her traumatic birth. My placenta abrupted and Ailyn was loosing oxygen. By the time the ambulance got me to the hospital, the doctor could not find a heartbeat. She was born barely alive. It took 12 full hours for her to move a tiny part of her body. The lack of oxygen to her brain caused her CP.

We are still very new to Ailyn's CP dx. Even though I suspected CP early on, she wasn't diagnosed until 2 21/2 years old.

Ailyn has Ataxic CP but also falls into other CP categories.
You can read about Ataxic CP here- https://www.cerebralpalsy.org.au/what-is-cerebral-palsy/types-of-cerebral-palsy/ataxic-cerebral-palsy-ataxia/

Esotropia- Ailyn had eye muscle surgery at 3 years old. She wears glasses for far sighted ness.
Esotropia is a type of strabismus or eye misalignment. In esotropia, the eyes are "crossed"; that is, while one eye looks straight ahead, the other eye is turned in toward the nose. This inward deviation of the eyes can begin in infancy or later in childhood.

Kidney disease- when Ailyn was born her kidneys and gut shut down to keep her other organs alive. Ailyn has one working kidney and takes a blood pressure medicine 2x daily. So far high blood pressure is her only symptom.

Apraxia-
Apraxia is a disorder of the brain and nervous system in which a person is unable to perform tasks or movements when asked, even though: The request or command is understood; They are willing to perform the task; The muscles needed to perform the task .

Developmental delay- Since Ailyn is non-verbal ( she uses sign language and has some words) we don't know exactly what Ailyn knows. But, Ailyn is "all there". She gets everything you say and follows directions very well. But, is behind her peers in some areas.

Feeding disorder- I am proud to say Ailyn is an ex-tubie!!! She had a G-tube for 2 years. She had failure to thrive. She pulled it out while on vacation and has been eating since. Although, her main source of calories is through drinking Pediasure. She dropped 3 pounds very quickly when she stopped drinking it. Thankfully, she's back to drinking it, even if its by bottle.

OCD, sensory processing disorder, ADHD and anxiety are other struggles of Ailyn's.
